Canada is lowering obstacles to giving physicians permanent residency.
Physicians who are already in Canada may now apply for PR through Express Entry programs, according to IRCC.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has made changes that will exempt physicians who are currently temporary residents of Canada from some of the current requirements involved in obtaining permanent resident status through Express Entry programs. This is because Canada continues to experience a national shortage of qualified physicians.
Most significantly, doctors who are currently employed in Canada frequently discover that they are ineligible for Express Entry because Canadian doctors frequently adopt a "fee-for-service" payment arrangement that differs from the usual employer-employee relationship. On paper, this implies that many doctors who are temporarily temporary residents of Canada are regarded as self-employed.
Self-employed people who acquire this experience in Canada are ineligible for the majority of economic immigration routes, including those provided by Express Entry. It is crucial to understand that being self-employed alone does not automatically disqualify a candidate.
A applicant may still be qualified for an Express Entry program if they have at least one year of work experience in Canada or overseas.
